Pioneer Gone


L. S. Noble passes away at the age of eighty-eight. Died at the home of his son, John in Iowa, where he was on a short visit. L. S. Noble, age 88 years, on Wednesday, April 23. The remains were shipped, arriving here on Saturday night and were taken in charge by Baldwin & Sons of this place. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the deceased late home 3 miles northeast of this village and was largely attended by his many friends. Mr. Noble was one of the pioneer settlers of North Oxford and for over half a century lived on the farm from which his funeral was held Monday.

L. S. Noble, born Oct 5, 1813. He came to Michigan in 1835. Located his farm in Oxford. In 1837 he married Miss Harriet Whiting and moved to his farm.

Two children were born to them. In 1842 Harriet died. In 1845, he married Hannah Gibson; five children were born to them. His wife died in March 1882. In the year 1889 he went to live with his daughter, Laura Hunt, in Huron County, where he made his home until the spring of 1901. Three of his children survive him, John S. Noble of New Market, Iowa, Mrs. Laura Hunt of Bad Axe, Mich., and Frank G. of Mio, Mich.

In the death of L. S. Noble, North Oxford has lost one of its early pioneers, he having lived thereover sixty years, enduring very many hardships of pioneer life, besides the unusualamount of sickness and affliction in his family, but all without a murmur. He was a kind devoted husband and affectionate father and one of the best of neighbors.

His religion was the practice of virtue. He lived up to the Golden Rule.
